Oleksiy Danilov, Secretary of the National Security and Defense Council, said in an interview with CNN that over time, Ukraine will receive American-made F-16 fighter jets, and the country already has weapons capable of striking Russian territory, Ukrainian Pravda reports.
«It’s only a matter of time before we get F-16s. They will definitely come. Unfortunately, in the meantime, we are losing our people fighting for our independence,» the NSDC secretary said.
In an interview with CNN, Danilov also hinted that Ukraine is capable of striking Russia on its own territory, outside of occupied Ukraine.
«As for Russian territory, no one forbids us to destroy targets with weapons produced in Ukraine. Do we have such weapons? Yes, we do,» Danilov emphasized.
CNN reminds that Western countries have prohibited Ukraine from striking Russian territory with weapons provided by the West.
Throughout the war, there have been inexplicable explosions at strategic sites in Russia, but Ukraine has never publicly acknowledged its responsibility for these attacks.
In January, the head of the Main Directorate of Intelligence of the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine, Kyrylo Budanov, predicted «deeper and deeper» attacks in Russia, without acknowledging Ukraine’s responsibility.
At the time, Budanov told ABC News that he was «very happy to see» the attacks inside Russia, but until the end of the war he could not say whether Ukraine played a role in such strikes.
